About Women's Health: Feeling On Edge?

About.com

Wow, the story of the Jet Blue captain who had a presumed psychotic episode in mid-air this week is scary stuff. We hope he's OK, and we're glad everyone else on board landed safely. Still, I'm sure everyone involved is still feeling shaken up. Flying is one of those events that even when everything goes OK, I'm still anxious. I always need a bit of calming thoughts to feel better.

Are You Too Stressed? Know the Symptoms
Stress is easy to dismiss, but it CAN cause physical problems that show you what a burden it is. If a lowered libido and fuzzy thinking sound familiar, read on.

Causes of Stress
Work, relationships, school, money, and even your personality type can be profound sources of stress. (I haven't been in school for more than a decade and I still have nightmares about missing an important test!)

Feel Better Now
I love how the simple act of taking a deep breath has an immediate calming effect. What else helps?

Letting Go of Anger
How often have you found yourself brooding over something unnecessarily? This only compounds your stress.

About Women's Health: Vivien Leigh and Manic Depression

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

While it can be gut wrenching to read about our favorite celebrities spiraling out of control, their public plights do help all of us realize that mental illness is common and widespread -- even among people with great advantages in life. Take Vivien Leigh, the star of the hit classic "Gone With the Wind."

Leigh's Struggles with Bipolar
Leigh was affected long before the disorder was well understood -- and she also underwent shock treatment long before it was monitored and administered appropriately.

Axl Rose's Troubled Childhood, Angry Adulthood
Wild rocker Axl Rose couldn't be more different than demure Vivien Leigh, but they do share a common thread of struggling through life. Rose, so far, has said he isn't sure if he has bipolar disorder, though he has been diagnosed with it.

Carrie Fisher's Public Struggles
Carrie Fisher played the stunning Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, and has since become a successful "script doctor" and author. Luckily for us, she's also very openly discussed her bipolar disorder diagnosis, shedding a lot of light on the disorder and helping it become better understood.

Full List of Celebs with Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder (and mental illness in general) may or may not be more prevalent among "creative" types like actors, musicians and performers. Still, only a few famous people are fully known to be "out" as bipolar, and most of them are listed here.

About Women's Health: Do Your Breasts Hurt?

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

Ah, boobs. Most of the time our mammary glands are quiet, pain-free fixtures on our body (unlike, say, our lower backs or heads). So when breast pain pops up, it can be quite alarming.

Overview of Breast Pain
This article will give you the broad overview on breast pain, which you'll be happy to learn is often NOT due to cancer.

What's Up With Sharp Pains in Breast?
Most of us ladies know what mild breast pain feels like, thanks to our monthly cycles (thank you, mother nature). So when we feel a new kind of breast pain, we're pretty good at immediately knowing that something else is up -- and not due to our periods.

Tips for Managing Breast Pain
Once you've had your breast pain properly diagnosed by a doctor, these pain management tips can help ease the pain.

Breast Pain, Periods and the Pill
Hormones just make me want to give a heavy sigh and go find the nearest hammock. First, your body's natural hormones may cause menstrual-related breast pain. And a common treatment? Hormones that counteract your own hormones. Hormones, hormones, hormones -- sigh.

If you can't see this email, click here

Is it just me or is there a nail salon on almost every street corner these days? Pedicures are SO popular, but what are the pros/cons? Are they safe? How do you give yourself a (free!) pedicure with similar results?

How to Have Prettier Feet Now
If there's one thing I could train my husband to do, it's give me a pedicure. But I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime, these tips will help whip my feet into near-salon quality shape in the confines of my own home.

Tips for a Safe Salon Pedicure
Sometimes we just want to be pampered while someone else files, scrubs and massages our feet. However, all that hot water and human skin can add up to infections being passed around. Make sure you know how to get a safe salon pedicure.

Is It Plantar Warts or Calluses?
Corns and calluses are hardened areas of skin that develop from wear and tear. Plantar warts, meanwhile, look very similar but have a different cause.
