The American College of Sports Medicine has released the results of their ninth annual American Fitness Index, and for the third straight year in a row, Washington, D.C. is the fittest city in the United States. In second place was Minneapolis-St. Paul, in third place came Denver (up from sixth last year), and then Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Boston, MA, and Salt Lake City, UT. The index took into account how much the average citizen walks, how much parkland exists for physical activity, rates of diabetes and heart problems, smoking rates, and other factors. In last place came Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, and Louisville. So what's the big deal with Washington, D.C.? |
