Let's take five minutes to see this week in a new light. & Amy Morin, LCSW, Editor-in-Chief Top of Mind New Year's Eve might still feel a bit different this year as we carefully navigate the ever-changing dynamics of a pandemic. For some, staying at home and practicing self-care is the perfect way to find some inner calm, avoid the stress of large crowds, and start 2022 on the right foot. Here are a few ways to ring in the new year feeling refreshed.
Often, our mind goes into "what still needs to be done?" mode, which can make us feel stressed, overwhelmed, and inadequate. This New Year's Eve, take time to write down not what should be done, but what you've already accomplished. This not only allows us to practice gratitude, but it also gives us a moment to reflect on talents and triumphs which can bolster our self-confidence. Take a breather from a "go-go-go" mindset and instead press pause on time by throwing yourself into a craft. Maybe that means revisiting an old hobby you haven't had time for in a while, or perhaps that means branching out into new territory. Ideas can be as simple as doing a puzzle or coloring in a book, or as involved as painting on canvas or knitting a scarf. Spending the evening alone or with a small crowd on New Year's Eve doesn't mean you have to stay completely isolated. Pick up the phone and call (or video chat) with friends and family throughout the evening. This can be doubly beneficial if they're spending NYE in a quieter setting, too. These voice-to-voice conversations can help boost your mood. On the Bright Side Ways to Stay Positive This Week Ways to Nurture Your Mind and Body
