How To Examine Your Own Cervix
While not recommended by medical professionals, some women give themselves vaginal and cervical self-exams. Supporters of these exams say they help women learn what is normal, allowing women to more quickly recognize changes -- a way that you can get to know your body better. But, keep in mind that a self-exam should in no way replace your annual professional pelvic exam, during which the Pap smear and other tests can detect important microscopic changes.

Is DHEA Right For You?
There's been a lot of talk about the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA, and how it affects our sexuality, as well as our mental and physical health. Does DHEA provide effective relief for sexual problems, mental health issues, or physical health issues? Or is buying DHEA a waste of your money?

From Tracee Cornforth, your Guide to Women's Health
This week we talk about menopause and its' signs and symptoms. We look at several things you can try to relieve the hot flashes and other symptoms associated with menopause. Have a healthy week! Tracee

No More Hot Flashes
Hot flashes and menopause -- it's almost impossible to think of one without the other. Hot flashes are probably the first symptom we think of when we think of menopause or perimenopause (the years before menopause). Whether you already experience hot flashes, or you are still waiting for your turn, here are ten tips that can help reduce the severity of hot flashes when they happen to you.

Herbal Remedies For Menopause
There are many "herbal" products for sale that claim to help menopausal symptoms. These products are not regulated through the same government system as drugs, so there is little research to back up their claims. In addition, most have to be taken routinely, are not covered by insurance, and can become costly over time. Any herbal remedies for menopause should be thoroughly discussed with your health care provider.

What Is Menopause?
Menopause needn't signal an end to your life. In some cultures menopause is seen as a time when older women can help support the younger women as they raise their children. The older women are revered for their wisdom and knowledge. Menopause is a time of freedom and renewal- if you have any children, they should be grown and you are free of the monthly hassle of menstruation.

Self Testing For Menopause
Learn about a home test for menopause. This is a home-use test kit to measure Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) in your urine. This may help indicate if you are in menopause or perimenopause.

From Tracee Cornforth, your Guide to Women's Health
This week we discuss how to have accurate Pap smear results, what to expect at the GYN, why you need to have regular mammograms, and fibrocystic breasts. We also invite you to share your health stories, and talk about other important health issues for today's woman. Have a healthy week! Tracee

How To Prepare For Your Pap Smear
Pap smears are an important screening tool for cervical cancer. All women should have annual Pap smears beginning at age 21, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Women 21 to 29 should get a Pap every two years, then annually from ages 30 to 64. Learn how to prepare for accurate Pap smear results.

What To Expect When You See Your GYN
Have you ever been to an obstetrician/gynecologist or OB/GYN for a pelvic exam and Pap test? If your answer is "no" and you are 21 or older, pick up your phone today and make an appointment with your doctor or a family planning clinic in your area. On the other hand, if your answer is "yes," then how long has it been since your last Pap smear and pelvic exam?

Breast Cancer Screening
A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast and surrounding tissues which can effectively detect cancers long before you might feel a change during your monthly breast self- exam. Mammography can detect breast changes which could signify very early breast cancer.

Benign Fibrocystic Breast Disease
Fibrocystic breast disease is usually a benign (non-cancerous) condition. Symptoms include swollen, tender breasts, and/or one or more lumps. Frequently, symptoms worsen just before a woman's menstrual cycle and lessen near the end. For the majority of women these symptoms are a temporary discomfort; however, some women experience severe pain.
