About

From Denise Maher, your About Women's Health Editor
National Infant Immunization Week starts April 20th, and even if you don't have a newborn, it's a good reminder about the importance of vaccines. All of us, including adults and especially certain women, need vaccinations to stay healthy and to protect the health of those around us.

Vaccines, Herd Immunity & Public Health
Besides protecting individuals, vaccinations protect the public. When large numbers of people are vaccinated against a disease, protection spreads beyond the people who actually get the shot--an effect known as herd immunity that dramatically decreases the chance that an unvaccinated person may come into contact with the disease. So even those who can't be vaccinated, for age or health reasons, benefit. Herd Immunity & Widespread Immunization
