About

From Elizabeth Scott, M.S., your About.com Health Editor
Part of living a healthy lifestyle is surrounding yourself with positive people who can help you to stay on track and maintain your goals. Whether encouraging one another's dietary choices, helping friends stay motivated with fitness, or lending support through difficult health challenges, what we say and do to maintain social support with friends and family can make all the difference. Sometimes we can accidentally say the wrong thing, however, and create frustration and hurt feelings, or we become annoyed at continually hearing insensitive remarks from others who may even mean well. What are things we should avoid saying when we want to support each other in maintaining health? Several of About.com's health experts shared some of their best 'what not to say' advice to help you know what not to say, and what to say to friends who need support.
